Give the session a purpose
Before opening a feed, complete one sentence: “I am here to ___.” It might be to find a recipe, check a friend’s update, discover a new artist, or take a short break. The point is to make your intention visible enough that you can notice when the session stops serving it.
Choose a natural end: save one useful item, reply to one message, or finish a short window you selected. An end based on your purpose is easier to evaluate than an undefined promise to spend less time online. This is a practical planning exercise, not a treatment or a claim that everyone should use the same amount of screen time.
Change one part of the experience
Pick a small adjustment for a week. You might move a frequently opened app away from the first screen, silence a nonessential notification, or save an interesting item and return to it later. Keep the rest of the routine reasonably similar so you can tell whether the adjustment helped.
Your phone’s built-in tools can provide additional context. See Apple’s Screen Time guide or Google’s Digital Wellbeing guidance for your device’s current options. These are device features; this worksheet does not imply that Bloomscroll controls those settings.
Use a short session note
| Prompt | Example |
|---|---|
| Purpose | Find one useful idea for tonight’s meal |
| Chosen end | Save one recipe, then close the feed |
| What happened | Saved two recipes; continued browsing for another 10 minutes |
| What helped | Having the shopping list beside me |
| Next adjustment | Open the saved recipe directly next time |
The example is illustrative, not a reported user result. Keep your own notes private unless you choose to share them. You do not need to record every session; a few observations can reveal which situations deserve attention.
Review usefulness as well as duration
At the end of the week, ask which sessions gave you something you wanted and which left you searching without a clear purpose. Keep the changes that helped. If a rule made a necessary activity harder, adjust the rule rather than treating the activity as a failure.
Use the weekly screen-time review to compare device information with your own observations. The goal is a more deliberate routine that fits your priorities, with room for connection, entertainment, and discovery.
Put the guide to work
Small, practical experiments for deciding what you want from your feed and making time for it. Keep what helps; change what pulls you off course.
